Volunteer Spotlight: Jocelynn

It’s always a pleasure to work with passionate and talented volunteers who help KCB further its mission through their gifts and skillsets. One such volunteer we’ve been lucky to partner with is Jocelynn who has been assisting us with content creation for Good Soil Industries these past five months.

Through her work, we’ve been able to strategize branding for Good Soil Industries and grow the business’s social media presence. We appreciate her hard work and dedication to creating beautiful content that shares GSI’s work and impact with the community.

Hi Jocelynn! Can you first share with us a little bit about yourself?
Hello! I'm Jocelynn! I have an undergraduate degree in Graphic Design from CSULA that I graduated with in December of 2022. I am currently working for the City of Norwalk in the Recreation Department. I enjoy spending time with friends, family and most importantly God!

How did you get involved as a volunteer with Kingdom Causes Bellflower?
I heard about KCB through a friend who interned there. She mentioned to me that KCB needed some help with their social media content. She connected me with the Community Engagement Coordinator, and I soon joined the team to help out with their awesome cause.

What sparked your interest to volunteer on the media team?
I have a desire to get into social media marketing and KCB was the perfect opportunity for me to get my foot in the door. I also wanted to put my skillsets to use all while understanding the marketing aspect of what it takes to promote a social enterprise.

What has your experience been like volunteering on the media team?
I have enjoyed the collaboration of being a media team volunteer. I enjoy receiving feedback on the ideas I come up with and mostly the support I receive. I also enjoy the creative freedom I have to make content. Being able to use my creativity has helped me feel more comfortable in my work.

What are some things you have learned through your work as a media team volunteer?
Something I have learned while being a volunteer is understanding the brand of GSI so that I am able to better help market the business. I have learned to focus on our target audience, brand personality and social media strategy to increase awareness and engagement and help grow our clientele, so we can assist more people with employment barriers.

Lastly, what would you say to someone who is interested in volunteering at Kingdom Causes Bellflower?
Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask questions! KCB is such a collaborative and welcoming environment that is hard to hide in. Make yourself approachable and demonstrate humility in serving this unique organization. Overall, when I am serving at KCB, I remind myself that I am serving God first, which then helps me serve others.
