Evan: GSI Participant of the Month

We’re happy to announce Evan as the GSI Participant of the Month for August! Evan first began work at Good Soil Industries three months ago after being referred by Project Rise. Evan shared that he had no prior job experience to shape his expectations when starting at GSI. The unfamiliarity of the job could have easily deterred him, but he persevered. He acknowledged that at the start, the experience was overwhelming, yet his determination and curiosity kept him engaged.

Evan's motivation has evolved over his brief time at GSI. Initially, it was about just doing a job. However, his perspective shifted, and he began to recognize that his time at GSI was more than that. His experience was also helping him train for full time work. Since then he has aimed to cultivate a strong work ethic that he can carry forward to any future job. Evan's insight underscores the hidden potential that even seemingly routine jobs can hold for personal and professional development.

Team dynamics play a pivotal role in shaping Evan’s first work experience. Working alongside the GSI team, who are not only helpful but also diverse in their backgrounds, has enabled Evan to learn how to collaborate well. He highlighted the camaraderie and mutual support within the team as impactful for him.

Evan's time at GSI extends beyond the scope of daily tasks. He spoke of the Thursday morning devotionals, a unique part of his experience that provides an extra layer of depth to his work life. He shares:

I’m a real big believer and want to spend time with God, but I can get busy. I appreciate the volunteer, William, who comes and shares a message with us. I look forward to his message every week.

Through his experience at GSI, Evan has learned that he is capable of achieving what he puts his mind to. He further explains that he never imagined he’d get up at 4:30 in the morning for a job, but does it now, showing him that it is possible to do something you never thought you could do. For prospective participants interested in joining GSI, Evan's advice is simple yet meaningful: Don't give up, even when the going gets tough. He encouraged utilizing the resources available at GSI and Kingdom Causes Bellflower, as these resources make the employment experience at GSI unique and transformative.

Evan's story at Good Soil Industries is a living example of how stepping into the unknown, facing challenges head-on, and embracing growth can lead to transformative personal and professional development. His journey reflects the essence of GSI – a social enterprise that not only provides work to those with employment barriers but also nurtures a sense of purpose, camaraderie, and personal empowerment. Evan's experience serves as a reminder that work can be a catalyst for change, enabling individuals to cultivate skills, broaden horizons, and unlock their full potential.
