Millie's Story

Keeping the lights on. Keeping a roof over your head. These are phrases that some people use on a regular basis, but not always because they are actual challenges. For certain individuals in our community, they are genuine concerns. Life can change quickly. A lost job, broken relationship, or devastating medical diagnosis can lead to rapid instability, which can cause individuals to suddenly be very vulnerable. God provides, but there are moments when that truth can be hard for people to see.

A recent example is Millie, who was referred to Kingdom Causes Bellflower (KCB) because she was struggling with rent payments due to an unforeseen change in her employment. For Millie, maintaining her housing was not just about her needs but about maintaining a safe space for her grandchildren. Millie connected with Alexa, our Housing Case Manager, who immediately started working on a solution. Assistance for our neighbors can come in many ways and require diligence from both KCB and the client. Assessments, paperwork, interviews, and follow-up are not always exciting, but they can lead to life-changing results.

Millie was diligent with fulfilling expectations, and through the assistance of two different programs, KCB was able to take care of her electric bill and completely pay off her past rent. When Millie found out, she was overjoyed and exclaimed, "Thank you Kingdom Causes, I'm so thankful to God that He blessed me through you guys!” This was an exciting win, but the journey wasn’t done.

Despite this assistance, Millie was still out of work. She pursued new opportunities, and Alexa helped with both employment options and ongoing support. Eventually, Millie was able to find a new job, which provided not just income but an increased sense of peace and stability. Millie is moving forward, enjoying time with her grandson and experiencing a renewed sense of confidence.

Not every story at KCB wraps up with a simple, happy ending. There are some individuals who do not qualify for programs, and not all people are able to maintain steady success towards various goals. Despite that reality, God has called KCB to keep serving our neighbors one person at a time. The process of assistance can be slow at times, and there are dead ends. KCB continues to prioritize relationships, and we are diligently dedicated to surrounding our neighbors with supportive communities.

Please continue to pray for Millie, that work will continue, and that peace will abound. God provides in His time.
