Luke's Story

Luke was on the street for almost a year, unable to break a difficult cycle of alcohol abuse and homelessness. For so many neighbors, there isn’t one reason for personal challenges. Nor is there always a singular, simple solution. In addition to tangible deficits in housing, work, and community, neighbors can find themselves weighed down by constant despair. Too often the world wants to simplify what is often a complex situation, but oftentimes there is a powerful story.

Partnerships and relationships have always played a powerful, impactful role in the life of Kingdom Causes Bellflower (KCB). Over the years partnerships have included individuals, churches, other nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and community development agencies. God has blessed the efforts of KCB by opening doors to a wide variety of assets in the surrounding neighborhoods and cities.

For Luke, help eventually came from several sources. Thanks to a network of referrals, Luke eventually found his way to Kingdom Causes Bellflower (KCB), where he met Becky. Over time, Becky built trust with Luke and found him steady employment through a contact at a local church. KCB remains grateful that God works in the hearts of His people to provide second chances for at-risk neighbors. It can be a challenge to give someone an opportunity, but God calls all of us to love our neighbor as ourselves.

In addition to the job opportunity, Luke continues to receive retention case management and incentives from Rio Hondo America’s Job Center of California (AJCC). Rio Hondo has also been a tremendous partner over the years for people like Luke, along with many participants in the Good Soil Industries (GSI) program.

The story of Luke is currently on a positive path. Luke has been at his job for eight months and has done very well in his position. In addition, Luke was recently promoted! That is exciting news, and a reason to praise God. We are reminded that God has a plan, and that oftentimes we must be patient as that plan unfolds in His time.

We ask that you keep praying for Luke. Pray that his work continues to go well and that he is strengthened by a supportive community. Pray for his mother, as they support each other. Also, pray for the other “Lukes” who are still looking for a place to live, to work, or to belong.

Lastly, pray that God will reveal opportunities for you to partner with us, and that you will be open to His calling.
